These are two typical houses of the Engadina, as they can be found throughout the valley. During summer, many of the houses are decorated with beautiful flowers.

Despite of the large size of these houses, their windows are quite small. This - combined with the very thick walls of the buildings (up to 1 meter or 3 feet) - provides extremely good isolation. During winter, the temperature in this valley may drop even below -30°C (-22°F).
